Ingredients:

  • 500 grams of minced mutton (keema)
  • 2 tablespoons oil or ghee
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup green peas (optional)
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions:

  1. Preparation:
    • Wash the minced mutton thoroughly and drain the excess water.
    • Finely chop the onions, tomatoes, and green chilies.
    • Keep all the spices ready.
  2. Cooking:
    • Heat oil or ghee in a large pan or kadai over medium heat.
    • Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
    • Add finely chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
    • Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for another 2-3 minutes until the raw smell disappears.
    • Add finely chopped green chilies and tomatoes. Cook until the tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
    • Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and cumin powder. Mix well and cook for a couple of minutes until the oil starts to separate from the masala.
    • Add the minced mutton to the pan. Stir well to combine the mutton with the masala. Cook on medium-high heat until the mutton changes color and starts to brown.
    • Add salt to taste and mix well.
    • If using green peas, add them at this stage. Mix well and cover the pan. Cook on low heat for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mutton is cooked through and tender.
    • Once the mutton is cooked, sprinkle garam masala on top and mix well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
    • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  3. Serving:
    • Serve hot with naan, roti, paratha, or steamed rice.
    • Squeeze some lemon juice on top for added flavor.
